Ways of Becoming Regenerative: Learning from ecological thinkers, artists and indigenous wisdom
October 2025
Public Dialogue Event and Workshop series
Hosted by Becoming Regenerative with support from the Climate and Ecological Transitions Research Hub at Loughborough University London, this event offered a unique opportunity to rethink regeneration and regenerative futures from a fresh intercultural perspective.
The event brought several prominent Japanese regenerative activators into dialogue with leading regenerative design thinkers, researchers and practitioners in this area. The full day event uncovered novel insights and potent interrelations beyond disciplinary boundaries and entrenched dualisms.
From intercultural discussions on the meanings of regeneration to a profound Suiten no Kotoba card workshop with Ecological Memes, the day invited participants to explore regeneration through multiple lenses: creative, ecological and relational. These paved the way towards a culturally enriched understanding of how regenerative traditions can be fostered and built upon in the 21st century.
The evening’s talks and panel with Yasuhiro Kobayashi, Michael Pawlyn, Saori Ogura, and the Becoming Regenerative team (Dr Tuukka Toivonen and Dr Ida Telalbasic) sparked inspiring conversations that continued well into the networking reception, with refreshments kindly provided by Living Things and Holon Japanese gin.
